Look. I don’t have a fancy excuse, or really any excuse, for the lack of posts and updates (and that super late Newsletter – it’s coming, I promise!). The brutally honest point of the matter is…
I’ve been overwhelmed with a combination of home renovations, starting a new job, and gearing up for the Willamette Writers Conference (that I didn’t even get to go to – but more on that later).
It’s been a bit of a shit show over here. But, there is some good news!
- The house is DONE! There are no more contractors, no looming work to be done, and we can finally just enjoy our new home.
- We did end up buying a new dishwasher that’s yet to be installed, but that’s getting done TONIGHT!
- The new job is going incredibly well and I am VERY optimistic that this could be a job I retire from. This coming week is my first truly normal week and I am excited to get into the new rhythms and routines so I can settle down some.
- I pitched three agents at the Willamette Writers Conference (virtual pitches held ahead of the conference proper) and ALL THREE requested materials! I’ve got a bit of work ahead of me, but I’m excited to get this book in tip top shape and out to agents!
But, there’s a bit of bad news too…
Mostly, that I had to leave the Willamette Writers Conference early due to a pretty brutal migraine. I volunteered on Friday, got to hang out with some cool people as my head went from discomfort to a much more intense pain. I decided to pack up my things and drive straight home, and I’m glad I listened to my body.
I spent Saturday and Sunday in bed. I don’t even know how many hours I slept, but I know I ate little and drank even less water. I didn’t get up much at all, and the weekend was a blur of dark rooms and Pride & Prejudice (2005) on repeat.
Which means I missed out on the bulk of the conference, including an awesome Speculative Intensive with Wendy N. Wagner and Dongwon Song. I’m super fucking bummed about it.
There’s also the whole, slowly-but-surely moving back into our own house thing. We’re taking it slow, intentionally deciding what we actually want to keep and what can go, and where things will be stored. We’ve added some furniture pieces, and still have a couple of upgrades we want to install (new lighting throughout the house), so the To-do list in my house is pretty intense.
Not to mention the writing to-do list! Speaking of…
I’ll be back later this week with the Monthly Recap. I’m going to write it right after this post goes live. I won’t bother with a Goals Summary for this week, but will catch back up on those starting next week. Things should be settling down from here, as I acclimate to my new routines. I’d love to get back outdoors and squeeze in some hikes before the weather shifts, and of course there’s a lot of writing related work that needs to happen.
But more on that soon!
Until then, Bloggos!
