Well, hello, there. It’s been a minute hasn’t it? Now that I’ve had some months to myself (mostly), playing and reading and watching all things Dragon Age, I feel like I’m in a better spot to talk about this whole AI nonsense. Because it is nonsense. I think we’ve seen ample evidence of that. People foraging poisonous mushrooms, Google results suggesting users kill themselves, or you know, mix bleach and vinegar or some shit. So called “AI” (actually just LLMs but that’s a whole other rant) has exponentially increased the enshittification of the internet.
So, back in like… February or March I took down the blog aspect of this website, with very little notice. I mentioned it on some socials and put a good long rant in my newsletter, but those were the only explanations I offered.
Basically, the whole of the internet seems to have become a feeding ground for tech bro bottom feeders looking to bypass the act of creation in pursuit of a marketable product. (yes, they are missing the point of art, yes they are that dumb). AI has been “scraping” websites, some with explicit permission on platforms like WordPress and Tumblr, while others have been much, much sneakier. Really, what is a creative to do?
So, let me state it here for the record: I will not be sharing blog posts on this website any longer.
Instead, I’ve moved my more bloggish content into my monthly newsletter. If you sign up you’ll hear from me about once a month. I’ll share some musings about something writerly, I’ll offer a peek behind the publishing curtain in the way of submission and query statistics, and I’ll talk about books. If that sounds like your jam, sign up now!
I’ll also be honest and admit that sharing a blog-style post once a month is much more manageable and reliable than the multiple times a week I used to maintain. Between writing projects, the day job, and actually relaxing to prevent burnout, blogging the way I used to just isn’t realistic anymore.
So, yeah. That’s where I’ve been. I’ll still be sharing announcements on the homepage and keeping the site updated, you just won’t be seeing my more personal/casual musings anymore… unless you sign up for my newsletter!
