Ok, so this title is a little bit misleading. I didn’t have any goals last week, so I won’t exactly be summarizing them. I had goals the week before that, which I could talk about, but other than managing to send out the Newsletter, not a whole lot happened this past couple of weeks.
What happened was a lot of gaming, as the spousal unit and I splurged to get a PS5 so we can couch co-op Baldur’s Gate 3. Hence, no progress last week. We’ve been gaming for 3+ hours each night after dinner, and I have no regrets.
So, I let myself take a little breaky break and enjoy our couch and tv and just generally having the house back to do these sorts of things. Comfortably. It’s been delightful.
But, I still have a ticking clock on this novel, and I’m getting very close to finishing it. And am chomping at the bit to revise it. Which means I have to goals to share.
This Week
- Write at least twice
- Catch up on podcast
- get moving again
- update website
It’s pretty straightforward. I’ve scheduled three writing sessions each week for the remainder of the month, which if I can stick to it, gives me 8 hours of writing time each week. At that rate, the book *should* be done by the last week of September. Which gives me that week to read over the finished manuscript and make plans and goals for revision in October.
I feel really good about this. The schedule allows for ample gaming time, while still committing to the book. I’ve got lots of notes and some additional research to comb through in preparation for revision, so it’s really just a matter of nailing this final conflict scene and then leaning into the emotional wrap up.
It is strange in that endings are usual where I rush through and everything feels crystal clear, but this ending is muddy, muddier than the middle ever was. I have theories about that, but I’ll reserve them until I’m deeper into edits. I need to see if they prove true.
The podcast is more or less caught up now. The August episode went live Sunday morning, and Volume 5 of The Saga Saga will be posted Friday morning. Then we’re back on track. Are you all caught up?
I took the dog for a walk on Monday, which was very nice. But I need to get back to doing some yoga and playing Beat Saber. I’d also like to sneak in some fall hikes before the weather gets too soggy. Which means I need to get back in the habit of working out. We’ll see how it goes.
And of course, with this post, the website is now up to date. Look at me go, huzzah, and all that.
What Comes Next?
Well, short of setting goals for next week (I like to plan, but love routines more), here’s my immediate thoughts:
- Write at least one more time this week
- Clean/Organize office
So, you see, there’s plenty to do with the remainder of the week that ISN’T Baldur’s Gate. Wish me luck in following through with them. Regardless, I’ll be back on Monday with an actual Goals Summary.
Until then, Blogland!
