The morning started out bright and clear, but by now it’s clouding over in an unassuming, pale gray. No threat of snow or rain lurks in the bellies of these clouds, just a little barrier between us and the sun. I’d be mad at it if it weren’t still February. I can hardly ask for better at this time of year.
And yet I find myself counting down the days ’til spring, my heart clamoring for sunshine and warmth. This is the hardest part of the year, y’all. When so much of the country starts to awaken from its winter slumber and spring unfurls, we get last minute snowfall and freezes, spring delayed until mid-May.
We’re entering the homestretch, though. I can feel it. Which means I’m running out of time…

- Yes! I read a book about author/book marketing and got some pretty good ideas from it.
Weekly Word Count: 2,882
Well, it’s definitely seeming like the loss of some scheduled group writing sessions has impacted my discipline. The month of January had writing sessions on Sunday nights, and while it should be a simple thing to continue writing in that two hour block in the evening, it just doesn’t have the same appeal without other writers on my computer screen.
I gotta work on that.
The office isn’t in quite the disarray it was last week now that the gallery wall is up, but I haven’t taken any other steps to improve the chaos of paperwork lurking under my table of plants by the window. Trev did empty my office trash, which is an improvement! Basically, I can’t see the mess from my desk, so does it even really exist?
… yes. Yes, it does.
Reading is about the only consistent thing happening right now. Between listening to an audiobook, perusing writing books, and reading a little bit before bed each night, I’m making steady reading progress this month.
Honorable Mention
For reasons utterly unknowable to me, I’m finally Goodreads official after several failed attempts at verification! You can find me and the anthologies my stories have appeared in on Goodreads now!
Also, completely unrelated to writing or reading, but still a highlight of the week was the release of Jason Mraz’s new single “I Feel Like Dancing”. If you want a bop that’ll get you up and out of your seat, I can’t recommend it enough. I’m obsessed.

Looks familiar doesn’t it?
In all honesty, I’ve been happy with my output per writing session. Things slowed down a little this past week because I’ve hit a part in the book that requires more research, but I’ve sprinkled it into my routine and I’m moving forward.
Right now I’m feeling the pressure of the end of the month hurtling at me. Making a decent dent on the manuscript word count is the main priority, but there’s also a newsletter to prep and a podcast to record.
Luckily I’ve got an extra day off due to the holiday this week (as you read this I’m probably mid-hike, enjoying another Free Parks day). Hopefully that means I’ll eke out some extra words before my other responsibilities demand too much attention.
I’ll be back Wednesday with the usual Outings! post, but it’s an otherwise busy week, so I probably won’t have any extra blog posts. But I never say never so who the hell knows?
Until then, Bloggarts!
