Fall is here. I welcomed it with a date night to our favorite restaurant. We had the walleye special, which was incredibly nostalgic for me as I grew up eating fried walleye, and had a couple of my favorite adult beverages (caipirinha – kinda like a Brazilian margarita, but BETTER). Then we went home, I cut a few sprigs from my herbs and used them for my bath.
Now, I am not typically a bath person. There’s a lot of reasons for this, but largely I just get bored. Bubbles only entertain me for so long, I don’t trust myself with a library book near water, and I don’t sit still well. Baths are actually the opposite of relaxing to me.
But, I wanted to try an herb bath. I was relaxed from the cocktails and I’m reading an ARC right now, so if the book gets damaged, who cares? GUYS! An herb bath is the most relaxing bath I’ve EVER had. The smells? A+. My skin was so soft after, without that weird bubble bath slime feeling I always have to shower off afterwards. I expected to smell like Thanksgiving dinner or something, but instead the fragrance that clung to my skin was more green, fresh and restorative like walking through the garden. I slept SO well afterward.
I have since learned that an herb bath is a traditional ritual to celebrate the Autumn Equinox in the Wiccan faith, so I guess I’m a witch now. That bath was totally worth becoming an accidental pagan. Anyway, if you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend an herb bath.
Now, let’s talk about goals!
Last Week
- Write at least 3 times
- Prep Newsletter
- Record Podcast
How'd I Do?
- Write at least 3 times
- Yes! I actually wrote four times, but one of those sessions was on the microfiction for the newsletter…
- Prep Newsletter
- Yes, except, well, I have some things to say on this matter. Sit tight.
- Record Podcast
- No, because I’m a big dummy. I’ll explain soon.
Weekly Word Count: 3,753
Now, obviously, I am THRILLED with this word count. I wrote a lot on the novel and honestly expect to finish the rough draft this week. I’m excited, invigorated, and eager to get it done. This time next week I should be reading a COMPLETE rough draft!
I also outlined the Newsletter, and got out a rough draft of this month’s microfiction. Now, I know I said last week that the Newsletter would go out today (Sunday) but, I realized that September has a whole other week to go, and I haven’t posted a whole lot of blog posts this month. So, in an effort to have a bit more to share with you, I’m putting off the Newsletter until October 1st.
Which means you have time to sign up!
So, the podcast. Y’all, I was living in the future. We aren’t scheduled to record until THIS week. Which worked out because Heather’s sick. Please send her all the best vibes. So, uhhhh, I didn’t need to worry about the podcast this week, lol. Whoops.
What's Next?
- Finish the book
- Prep newsletter
- Record podcast
I know, this looks familiar, but I was living in the future, remember? I have an outline for the newsletter, but I haven’t actually started building it in mailchimp yet, so there’s work to be done. I also need to polish up the microfiction and record the audio for it. So there’s plenty enough to require a bullet point.
Obviously, the podcast gets recorded this weekend (pending Heather’s health), which means I have some reading to finish up.
And then the book. I am so close y’all. So, so close. I’m going to sit down to it for an hour or two today, see how it goes. Mondays I’ve been sprinting with my critique group for three hours, and this past week we just started a Thursday night work session. I also like to squeeze in a Wednesday morning session before I go to work.
So, lots of dedicated writing time to get this novel done. DONE. And once its done, I print it out – feel its weight in my hands, the heft of hundreds of pages – and then it’ll be time to read. To see if it is actually what I think it is. I’m feeling like I’ll probably do a Revision Prep post, to sort through all my swirling thoughts about the next massive step in this process. I look forward to it.
I don’t know if I’ll be back on the blog this week. But, next week there will be a Goals Summary and a Monthly Recap. And possibly that Revision Prep post, so don’t go too far!
Until then, Bloggarts.
