It’s been a wild, whirlwind couple of weeks, so let’s just skip the niceties and get right to it.

- No. Or at least, I didn’t finish reading anything. But I am reading again so that’s good news!
- Survive the week
- Yes. I am here, writing to you, so I did in fact survive.
Weekly(?) Word Count: 0
Look. It was a busy week by any standards. Add the whole displaced from our home stress, and really… how did I think I’d accomplish anything?
There is some good news though! We decided last Sunday to move back home and just cope with some discomfort for a few weeks until our hot water heater and the HVAC get reinstalled. It was a stressful morning, but we’ve been home for a week now and I feel SO MUCH better.
I also got to go see Muse and Evanescence with my childhood best friend. I love Amy Lee, but have never seen her live. It was an absolutely transcendent experience and it was worth the mild migraine and massive body aches the next day (turns out mid-30s is a little old for General Admission shenanigans).
And let me tell you, sleeping in my own bed that night was the icing on the cake. In fact, my sleep has greatly improved since we’ve been back home. We still have no kitchen or living room, so we’re spending most of our time in our offices or lounging in bed, but it’s worlds better than moving every week into some new, strange space.
Honorable Mentions
There’s just one, really big thing I HAVE to share. The time has come, the wait is over:
LIFE BEYOND US is out now!
I can’t wait for readers to sink their teeth into this anthology and finally read “The Lament of Kivu Lacus”. It’s a strange, sad story about secrets, love, isolation, and the relationships we forge with the animals in our lives. About the unexpected impact of a life.
I love this story and am so very proud of it. I still can’t completely believe that it found a home in such a massive, beautiful, and powerhouse-riddled anthology. But I am so, so happy it did.
You can buy your copy of Life Beyond Us here.
So, What's Next?

This is a pretty straightforward, standard week. Or, at least, it would be if things were “normal” and not… whatever the hell this reality is. BUT, I’m back in the house, the whiteboard is back in the present, and I’m feeling so much better about basically everything. I even had a couple of little breakthroughs on the book!
So, I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to slip back into my routines and squeak out some good work this last week of the month.
I also need to work on catching up on short story submissions and queries. I’ve collected a lot of rejections this past month or so, but haven’t had the bandwidth to replenish submissions. It’ll take some time, but I should be able to get back in the trenches/slush this week.
And… that’s that. I’ll be back on Wednesday with a return of Outings! (the routines return, nature is healing. It’s me, I’m nature.) so now would be a good time to go back and read any installments you might have missed.
Until then, Bloggarts!
