Let’s get right into it, shall we?
Last Week
- The Lament of Kivu Lacus line edits
- Spend at least 2 hours with Victoria
- Send Tavi to Beta readers
- Read The Last Graduate by Naomi Novik
How'd I Do?
- The Lament of Kivu Lacus line edits
- Yes! I dreaded opening this edit letter — my first professional one — for fear that it would be rife with revisions and basically confirm what I secretly knew all along: I’m a shit writer. Yeahhhh that didn’t happen. It was ten minutes worth of work, mostly adding commas (which made me proud — you usually have to cut those!), and changing a word here or there. So, that’s done, we’re all in agreement and now I just wait for the final formatted version.
- Spend at least 2 hours with Victoria
- Yes. But until now I thought I hadn’t met this goal because I wrote it down EVERYWHERE else as 4 hours…
- Send Tavi to Beta readers
- Yepppppp. It’s in trusted hands, and I’m already getting a trickle of info back. I’m trying not to think about it too much.
- Read The Last Graduate by Naomi Novik
- No… I’m actually writing this right now (Sunday night) with a migraine, so reading hasn’t been of much appeal this weekend. I did start listening to an audiobook, one of my go-to activities when laid low by my ridiculous brain. Alas, I have not finished reading anything this week.
Weekly Word Count: 1,245
As I’ve mentioned, I’m mid-migraine at the moment. I don’t have a lot of thoughts to expound upon about this week. Mostly, open emails from editors when you get them, check them for due dates and honor them. Luckily Lucas with Laksa Media was very kind and understanding when I returned my super easy edits a week late.
Otherwise, there’s some decent progress happening with Victoria. That’s nice. I keep feeling the urge to revise a short story instead, but I’m ignoring it. There’s a new episode of the podcast, so check that out if you haven’t yet. What else…? Hmm… Oh! I’m working on my query letter for Tavi. I sent it to my critique group last week and got a lot of great feedback, and I’ve been listening to podcasts and reading articles and examples on line, so I’m feeling pretty good about it.
What's Next?
- Draft Tavi synopsis
- I have a workable draft of the query letter, so next is some version of a synopsis. I want to get both a one and a three page synopsis ready to go for the query package since agents may ask for either.
- Spend three hours with Victoria
- I managed two, and want to get to four, so let’s meet somewhere in the middle.
- Finish reading The Last Graduate
- I mean, c’mon
And that’s where I’m at. Pretty low-key goals for the week, except for, you know, the whole write an entire synopsis thing. Ugh. I am not looking forward to that. Got any tips?
Until next time,
BZ
