It’s a chilly, but clear day today. Everything is crisp – sights, sounds, smells. It’s all fragile and frigid and begging for care and consideration, even as the blue sky beckons through the window.
Last week was long, Blogland. It felt longer than the whole rest of the month so far, and while I’m looking forward to this holiday week, I’m also exceedingly anxious about it.
You know, the usual.

I feel like it’s been a long time since I achieved all of my goals in a week. I also feel as though I should be much more excited about this accomplishment, but I’m just sitting here with anxious, churning guts as I consider what’s to come. But, before I lose myself in an anxiety spiral, there is a lot of good here to talk about.
The big one, obviously, is that I actually managed to catch back up on my Nanowrimo word count! So far this book is going very well, the words coming easily and the plot unfolding quite nicely. I can’t quite say why this books is so much easier than expected. It could be that it’s coming on the heels of Destine to Drown, which fought me every time I sat down to write. It could be that this story has percolated for almost two years, so there’s a lot of framework built up already in my mind. Or maybe the month of serious research helped me build a solid foundation from which to work.
My guess is it’s a little bit of all three. Whatever it is, it’s been absolutely lovely to discover that I do, in fact, still love writing novels. That not every story is a slog or a test of will. It’s made for very happy drafting so far. Which I’m sure means revision will be a bitch, but when isn’t it?
I’ve been reading quite consistently this month, which has been very nice. I’m behind on my Goodreads Reading Challenge, but I just might be able to eke it out at this rate. It’s hard to prioritize reading when writing is all I’m thinking about this week. Striking the balance is difficult, just like it always is.
What's Next?
- Nano – Keep Pace (43,342 words)
- Finish reading The Lost Metal
- Newsletter Prep
- Workout/read 30 minutes/day
I have over 11,000 words to write this week, and only five days in which to write them. Which means I need to make those days as productive as possible. Luckily work is not demanding this week, and I have a bonus day off. That day is admittedly pretty busy with travel and holiday prep, but I should be able to squeak in some extra words.
Keep your fingers crossed for me.
On top of all this, I want to finish reading the newest Brandon Sanderson book, The Lost Metal, and need to write up the Newsletter so it can go out on schedule while I’m away.
So, you know, keeping things ambitious as all my time shrivels to nothing.
In addition to all of this, be on the lookout for the next entry in the Outings! series, this Wednesday. You probably won’t hear much from me until after the weekend, and the Goals Summary post may even be a tad late as Monday is a travel day for us. I’ll do my best to get things prepped and out on time, but just be prepared that it might not happen.
Until then, Bloggos!
