If you’re looking at this and thinking, “damn B., what the hell happened?” That’s fair. i’ll tell you what happened… one of the worst migraines I’ve had in a long time.
It struck Wednesday night after I got my hair done for the first time in months. I don’t know exactly what caused it, but I’m guessing a perfect storm of triggers:
- strong scents from the hair salon
- Long period of time without my glasses while getting hair colored and cut
- change in barometric pressure as Fall weather looms in the valley
- probably not enough water that day
- I hadn’t had a migraine in almost two months, and had successfully medicated away several attempted migraines
Basically, if I successfully stymie a migraine long enough, it eventually breaks through and comes out SWINGING. And, keep in mind, my migraines last a minimum of THREE DAYS.
This one started Wednesday night, didn’t give a fuck about the meds I took, and I had to call out of work on Thursday. I stayed in bed all day, in pain and nauseous. Friday I forced myself to go to work because we had an assembly and needed to be there. I stayed long enough for that and then left right after. I returned to our dark bedroom and tried to sleep through the worst of it. Friday night required several ice packs. It was fucking miserable. Saturday started out promising, but I ended up stuck on the couch until late in the evening when I started feeling human again.
Today I woke with a rebound(?) headache. Or I was really dehydrated? It could be either or both. My migraines often come with temperature regulation issues, so I feel feverish and sweat a lot. I still had to take one more nap before finally feeling normal again today (Sunday).
So. Yeah. Nothing got done this week. None of my planned Nanoprep, no Newsletter prep (that’s why it went out kinda late), and definitely none of my planned workouts. And I had to cancel our podcast recording! The next episode of Top Shelf Librarians is going to be a little late. Sorry.
Which means I’ve spent basically ALL of today glued to my laptop trying to catch up on all the shit I didn’t get done. The good news? It’s been a very productive day. The bad news? The day is basically over and I need to prepare for the work week already.
But first, goals.

I got a lot done on Sunday, but there’s still some catching up to do. Tonight (Monday night) I’ve got to prep my Scrivener document for the new novel. There’s a lot of pictures and notes that need to get dumped into the Research folders, as well as some character background notes that are just living in my head right now.
I also need to reschedule the Top Shelf Librarians recording. I’m going to do my best to get it done as close to Friday as possible, but it’s very likely going to be late. There just isn’t any way around that. Sorry.
I need to get back on my workout schedule and catch up on some serious reading. I have a couple different research books I need to dig into, but also I have a lot of For Fun books I want to catch up on too! And Nanowrimo isn’t exactly peak reading season… and Trev’s birthday is thursday, PDX Book Fest is this Saturday, and then I’m driving to Seaside to spend two days with Leadership Students at the OASC Fall Conference…
I’ll be back tomorrow with the Recap, and again on Wednesday with the next issue of Outings! And then who the heck knows, because we’ll be well into Nanowrimo Season by then.
Wish me luck, Blogland…
