Let’s get the screaming over with:
VICTORIA IS DONE! She is DONE! The novella is revised and submitted and she is DONE! She’s gone, flew the coop and into someone else’s brain! GOODBYE!
Okay. Now that’s done, I’ll admit I didn’t feel so giddy about it in the moment. I felt nervous, sending out this little, but ambitious book. It’s strange and complicated and carries a lot of my darkness in it. Actually sending it felt weighty, and I was very somber about it. I talked a lot of shit about this book. I talked a lot about how I didn’t enjoy any part of it, how HARD it was to write and then to edit. How it felt like a constant battle at every step of the process.
But then it came time to send it off and I felt… sad? I don’t know honestly,. Maybe more pensive than sad, but I realized how much I did love it. I may not have liked making it, but by the end I couldn’t deny how much I loved it. Which seems so obvious now.
Who spends a year working on something that isn’t fun if they don’t love it, intensely?
So, yeah. I had a lot of complicated feelings about submitting Victoria (now known as Destined to Drown: A Modern Frankenstein), which seems fitting since it’s a complicated book.
But, there are other goals to talk about. For instance, the one about working out?
It’s going well. Like, really well. I’ve mapped out a plan and have a little routine throughout the week to target certain goals (Monday = Cardio, Tuesday = Pilates, etc.,) and I’m actually sticking to it? The weekends are still a little more loosey goosey than I’d like, but I have a plan for that…
If you haven’t seen the post, or the addition to the Announcements section on the Latest page, then let me introduce you to:
Outings!, a weekly blog post where I share my adventures in the Pacific Northwest. Some of the “adventures” will be small, local explorations, and eventually the series will include bigger outdoorsy trips. It’s a way for me to talk about a part of my life that is vital to me, and a way to document this lifestyle change I’m undertaking.
Be on the lookout for the first installment of Outings! this Wednesday!
And finally there’s that whole Decompress from Fiction bit… Look, everyone decompresses differently. Hell, each project requires different kinds of cranial cleansing. And apparently, after finishing Destined to Drown, my brain was locked and loaded with a new short story idea.
Whoops.
But, that’s going really well too! So I’m not mad about it. Not even a little bit. Not even at all.
So, What's Next?
- Finish Ramona Rough Draft
- Continue Research for Nanowrimo Project
- Workout/Read 30 minutes a day
And that’s it! I have a pretty straightforward week ahead of me. No major work commitments to worry about, which is still a sort of relief after the come down from Homecoming Week. I have plans to return to the Oregon Historical Society Research Library on Saturday, and to get drinks with friends afterwards, so that’s very exciting!
Generally, I just have a lot of good things going right now. I feel like I’ve settled into a rhythm for the first time since school started back up, and that is VERY soothing for me. So, of course, I’m sure November will throw everything for a loop!
That’s like, life, Man.
And that’s it, Bloggos. That’s all I’ve got. While I’ve got you, here’s some last minute reminders:
- The September episode of Top Shelf Librarians is out! Have you listened yet?
- My Newsletter goes out on the last Sunday of the month. Now’s the time to sign up if you haven’t already!
- There’s been some small changes to the website, mainly on the Meet page. So if you haven’t poked around in a while, maybe do some exploring?
I’ll be back Wednesday with the first installment of Outings! I sincerely hope you like it.
Until then, Bloggarts!
