Goals Summary 2022 – Wk #30

Goals Summary 2022 – Wk #30
August 1, 2022 by B. Zelkovich

This week has been a blur of good news, revision, and video games. I have no complaints.

Last Week

  • Finish + submit The Secret Ingredient
  • Finish The Hard Decisions
  • Read a book
  • Prep July Newsletter
  • Write 3500+ words of fanfic

How'd I Do?

  • Finish + submit The Secret Ingredient
    • Yes! This story came together much more easily than I expected. Revision was straightforward too! It’s now on submission at the market that inspired it, so fingers crossed!
  • Finish The Hard Decisions
    • Yep! This story is still a weird one to me. Another one of my stories that doesn’t really seem to fit anywhere. But I’ll keep sending it anyway. I’ve learned that lesson well this week.
  • Read a book
    • Yes! I finished reading A Poetry Handbook by Mary Oliver, and you can hear all about it on the next episode of Top Shelf Librarians!
  • Prep July Newsletter
    • Yes! It is done and should have arrived in your inbox yesterday afternoon. You can sign up for next month’s Newsletter here!
  • Write 3500+ words of fanfic
    • No. Not even a little bit.

Weekly Word Count: 0

Man, I really don’t like writing zero for my word counts, but this week was a revision heavy week. And yet again, I find myself without an original fiction story to work on!

Honorable Mentions

There’s really only one honorable mention, and I’ve already screamed about it, but heck. Why not scream some more, right?

I sold a story last week! “Lifelike” has been bought by Wyldblood Press and will appear on their website as part of their Flash Fridays series. I’ll be sure to share the link once it’s published.

Oh! We also recorded the July episode of Top Shelf Librarians, and it will post on schedule on August 5th! And I found out one of my stories is being held for consideration, so that’s nice. It doesn’t necessarily mean anything – rejection is still very likely – but this is the first market I’ve sent this story to, so that’s very promising.

So, yeah, good things happened this past week. It was busy, revision heavy, but good. That’ all you can ask for.

What's Next?

  • Prep elevator pitches for Something Sulfurous and Victoria
    • Prep additional Something Sulfurous pitches for #DVpit
  • Draft packing list/pack for #WilWrite22
    • Enjoy #WilWrite22

And… that’s it? I don’t have a writing project right now. I want to read the rough draft of Victoria, but I don’t know if I’m going to have time this week. I have non-writing, school work to do for a few days, and then I’m off to the conference!

Honestly, I’m struggling to think of what to talk about, either for last week or this coming week. But I expect that the week after the conference my head will be full of writerly things to discuss. I’ll be tweeting throughout the weekend, so you can follow along with all the fun there!

Before I leave though, I will post the July Recap on Wednesday, so you’ll see me on the blog one more time before the conference.

Until then Blogland,

BZ
