Blogland,
I’m tired. I’m writing this post after spending the better part of four hours revising Tavi. My brain is mush. In the best possible way. As far as the week went, it was mostly decent. I got to host a program in the library, which was relatively well attended, and I got to do my Pop-Up Library on Friday. The Husbando and I have been enjoying going out to eat again, and i spent an entire evening with my best friend. It was a good week for me as a person.
But, was it a good week for my writing? Let’s find out!
Last Week
- Revise at least 10 chapters of Tavi
- Spend at least 4 hours with Victoria
- Finish reading Things in Jars and read The Last Graduate by Naomi Novik
How'd I Do?
- Revise at least 10 chapters of Tavi
- Yes! I actually binged and got 20(?) done. Something like that.
- Spend at least 4 hours with Victoria
- Hahahahaha *cries*
- Finish reading Things in Jars and read The Last Graduate by Naomi Novik
- Yes? I did finish Things in Jars, but instead of The Last Graduate I started reading Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw. As of this writing I have not finished it, but the night is young.
Weekly Word Count: 0
That… does not make me feel good. I am really struggling with getting my ass in the chair to work on Victoria. I don’t know why. When I sit down with it, it works. It doesn’t feel broken or blocked. But getting myself to actually work on it has been like pulling teeth. Maybe once Tavi is done I’ll be able to focus? Maybe if I ever get this ADHD treated I can get something done? I don’t know, man.
What else did I work on this week? Well, there was a Willamette Writers meeting on Monday, my SFF Critique group meeting on Wednesday. There was a lot of focus on my personal life this week. Watching movies with Trev and hanging out with the best friend. These were things that needed/deserved to have time invested in them. It made me feel good, and that’s really important these days.
I also played around on the piano this week, which was nice, and I read a lot. I’m beginning to think that having to novel-sized projects going at once isn’t really viable for me. At least not when I still have a day job. I can’t keep up with my life, my passions, my job, and my pleasures all at once. It’s too much, no matter how well I manage my time.
What's Next?
- Finish Tavi revision!
- What?! That doesn’t feel real, but I only have nine chapters left! This is my final week with the novel before beta readers get their hands on it.
- Spend at least 2 hours with Victoria
- Since four hours has proved so difficult, I’m bumping this down in the hopes that the less daunting number will make the task more appealing. Fingers crossed.
- Read The Last Graduate
- I would like to get this done before we record our next episode of Top Shelf Librarians, that way I have more to talk about. P.S. Get caught up on the show here!
And that’s the week ahead. There’s a Willamette Writers meeting Monday night, an open mic night. One of my big (unofficial) goals is to get better at talking about my writing. Which includes reading my work to an audience. So, I’m going to volunteer to read. Ughhh I’m anxious and I still haven’t decided what story to read from. I’ll figure that out tonight.
We’re going to the Beyond Van Gogh immersive experience this weekend, which by all accounts is going to be awesome. So we have that to look forward to! And I booked an Airbnb for spring break, which I am very excited about. Things are good right now, even if I can’t seem to draft and revise at the same time.
Until next time Bloggarts,
BZ
