It’s Monday, and while this post is on time, I’m feeling very far behind in basically every other aspect of my writing life. Let’s take a look at why!
Last Week
- Revise >20 chapters of Something Sulfurous
- Revise and submit The Finest Creation of an Artful God
- Finish next chapter of my Horizon Forbidden West fic/post new chapters of various fanfic projects
- Write >500 words of Victoria
- Record podcast episode
How'd I Do?
- Revise >20 chapters of Something Sulfurous
- Fun fact. My printer ran out of toner and I started running low on paper. I used that as a not-so-convincing excuse to avoid revision and work on other things.
- Revise and submit The Finest Creation of an Artful God
- See above re: paper and toner shortage.
- Finish next chapter of my Horizon Forbidden West fic/post new chapters of various fanfic projects
- Yes? I had to go back and confirm, but yes. I finished that chapter of my Horizon Forbidden West fic and I also posted a chapter of my Dragon Age fic. This still feels like a “sort of” but I’m counting it as a win.
- Write >500 words of Victoria
- YES! Yes yes yes! I wrote on this piece for the first time in MONTHS and it felt SO. GOOD. As you can tell from all the caps locks.
- Record podcast episode
- Lol. No. Getting four grown humans to schedule 2+ hours of recording time is like herding cats.
Weekly Word Count: 2,203
2/5 isn’t the best hit rate, but I’ve definitely had worse. I’m not that mad at the above stats, mainly because, I mean… Look at that word count! I did the things! With the words! And that feels REALLY good.
Honorable Mentions
There was a lot happening this week, which I’m sure I mentioned somewhere. Between after work meetings, my SFF Critique Group, and our High School’s Graduation, I didn’t have a lot of free time this week. Then Saturday was spent with friends downtown, in support of our city’s new Pride event. It was nice to get out of the house and into my city again. I’ve felt really disconnected from it since the pandemic, and I hadn’t realized how much I’d missed it until this weekend.
And, of course, this past week was Summer Games Fest and there were a lot of announcements for awesome games coming in the next year or so. Including Starfield, Dragon Age: Absolution (yes, I went absolutely feral at the trailer reveal), and a couple of little indies I think the spouse and i would enjoy. All of this is to say we finally bought the next gen of the Xbox this weekend, so expect a bit of video game talk in the coming months.
What's Next?
- Revise >30 chapters of Something Sulfurous
- Write >500 words of Victoria
- Connect with last Beta Reader re: The Finest Creation of an Artful God
- Keep working on fics
- Record Podcast Episode
This list should look pretty familiar. I need to get Something Sulfurous done. Just get it done, man. I want to move on. And ~30 chapters is basically the remainder of the book. Am I going to get it done this week? Probably not. But I need to get a lot done, and setting a big goal is one way to do it.
The progress on Victoria last week is very motivating. Hopefully I can finish the chapter I’m currently working on this week and keep this momentum going. I also have more fanfiction to work on (my Dragon Age fic only has three chapters left before it is “done”!), although that is a ways down on my priorities list at the moment.
I also need to hunt down my last Beta Reader for The Finest Creation of an Artful God and get her thoughts. She prefers to deliver them in person, and we have a whole chat about the work, usually over sushi. So it’s time for a dinner date and writing talk.
And, if I’m lucky, we’ll record an episode of the podcast this week. But, it’s a longshot, since one of the hosts has COVID at the moment.
So, yeah. We’ll see how the week goes. I won’t lie, I’m feeling very unmotivated at the moment. Work is just so busy and I’m tired. All I want to do is play viddy games…
Later Gators,
