I just want everyone to notice that this post is on time. This hasn’t happened in months, but here it is. On schedule.

How'd I Do?
- QUERY PACKAGE!!!
- YES!!!! The query letter and synopsis are DONE! The first two chapters are also DONE, but more on that in a bit.
- Polish/submit The Finest Creation of an Artful God
- Nope. But close. I just need to touch base with my betas and get some feedback.
- Read!
- Yep! I read a whole book last week!
- Follow writing schedule
- Yes? I didn’t write on Tuesday like I’d planned, but I made up for it by writing on Thursday, which wasn’t planned. I call that a win.
- Record Podcast
- Nope. One of our hosts was feeling under the weather. Hopefully we can get it rescheduled and back on track.
Weekly Word Count: 0
Man, even on productive weeks, I hate writing zero at the end of my word count tally. It never feels good. But, that’s the way of it sometimes. Not all weeks are creation weeks. Some are cutting and revisioning weeks. And that’s okay. There was a lot of really great work happening this week! So let’s talk about it.
I blogged, which was cool. It feels really good to get back in the habit of writing and sharing my writing life on this site. Fingers crossed I can keep it going.
I revised and polished my query letter and my synopsis! As expected, it was much less difficult and intimidating than my writer-brain made it out to be.
Something Sulfurous is now on a revision schedule which should see the manuscript “finalized” by mid-June (I put it in quotes because if it ever does sell, I’ll have to edit it all over again).
And… I sold another story! I’m not giving out the details yet, because the contract isn’t signed, but once it is you can expect a post and an update to the site’s homepage.
Honorable Mentions
There was some awesome, non-writing related things happening this week as well. I’m getting my health back into a maintenance mode and actually visiting my doctor for all the check-ups I skipped out on during the pandemic. Turns out, if your body isn’t well, the brain doesn’t really see the point in pumping out creative energy.
I went camping with my spouse and his parents this weekend! It was… SO rainy. The Oregon Coast is renowned for being mercurial, but I didn’t expect so much wind and rain at the end of May! All of Oregon seems to be stuck in late winter/early spring, when it should be damn near summer! Where’s the sunshine? Where’s the warmth? I haven’t been hiking nearly enough considering how late in the season it is! But none of this is the point.
The point is, I went to the coast with family for a couple of days and, despite the less-than-ideal weather, had a lovely time. I got a lot of reading in and got to sit by a campfire and listen to the rain at night. All wonderful, restorative things.
So I’m feeling rested, content and buoyed by salt air and spruce-tinted breezes.
So, What's Next?
- Polish/submit The Finest Creation of an Artful God
- Revise >10 chapters of Something Sulfurous
- Write ~500 words of Victoria
- Finish the current chapter of my Horizon Forbidden West fanfic
- Read something
Look, Gang. That’s a lot. That’s a lot of goals for a really fucking busy work week. I can be frank and tell you right now — not all of that is gonna happen. It just isn’t. But these are all big projects (minus the fanfic) so if I can get two or three of them done, that will be more than satisfactory to me.
And that’s where I’m at. Things are chugging along. Publishing is slow, but there’s still movement. I’m making progress, and plan to continue to do so. I’ll be back Wednesday with the May Recap and June goals.
And, as a super special bonus *heavy sarcasm* I’ll be sending out my Newsletter sometime this week, so be sure to sign up to get more snark and stories from me!*
Until then,
BZ
